Itinerary
| Day 1 - Nairobi to Masai Mara | Meals: L D |
This 5 Star Group Tour takes you from park to park in a luxuriously-fitted light aeroplane. The small group you will be travelling with will range in size from a minimum of two to a maximum of ten and, of course, all accommodation is individual and private. Your journey will start when we collect you from your hotel or Nairobi's international airport and take you to Wilson Airport where you willl board your flight to the Masai Mara. Upon your arrival at this famed safari park your personal guide will greet you and drive you to Albatros Travel's very own eco safari lodge - the Karen Blixen Camp. The camp, located on the banks of the Mara River, consists of 22 luxuriously-appointed tents and is situated in a superb position overlooking the dramatic Siria Escarpment with the expansive Masai Mara plains providing a stunning backdrop. Following lunch at the camp you will take your first game drive, discovering for yourself what it is that makes this park one of the world's premier safari destinations, returning in time for sunset cocktails and dinner prepared by the Karen Blixen Camp's internationally trained chefs.

Today you will awake to the beautiful soft light of the Masai Mara and enjoy a delicious breakfast looking out over the lively river. After this we will spend much of the day on an extended game drive and our knowledgeable guides and drivers know exactly where to look for the kinds of animals that make the Masai Mara so special. Although the Masai Mara is best-known for its annual Great Migration of wildebeests and zebras (which takes place from July until October), there is superb game viewing throughout the year. If you would like, you can also take a hot air balloon ride today, and see the wildlife-rich African plains from a whole new angle. After the balloon ride you will return to the camp for a sumptuous dinner beneath the starry Africa sky before turning in for another night in you exquisitely comfortable tent room. | Day 3 - Masai Mara to Amboseli | Meals: B L D |
Following an early-morning bush breakfast we will today fly you to Amboseli National Park. En route from the airstrip to Satao Elerai Camp you will have plenty of time to enjoy the stunning scenery and spot a great range of wildlife. Satao Elerai is a luxury camp situated on an escarpment and offers breathtaking views across the park to Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. People who have stayed here come away talking about the camp's excellent location, the friendly staff and the great food. The lodge is set within a 5,000 acre conservation zone right next to Amboseli, meaning that you'll get to see all the wildlife without bumping into many other visitors. Satao Elerai takes the conservation of Africa's wildlife seriously and has set up its own wildlife intitiative. By staying here you'll be directly helping to conserve this bijoux African paradise. After a hearty camp lunch you will visit a typical Maasai village for an interesting insight into how this tribe lives or, if you'd prefer, you can relax by the pool with a glass of wine and a good book! Cocktails and dinner will be serverd in the evening before you turn in to your comfortable and stylish bungalow for the night.

A full-morning game drive in Amboseli National Park follows breakfast and we will return to the camp for lunch. After lunch you will have plenty of relaxation time to savour the peace and quiet of the bush and the amazing views from Satao Elerai. In the afternoon you will be offered the chance to go on another game drive in the conservation area and, when the sun begins to dip below the horizon we will stop for traditional sundowners in the bush. En route back to camp for dinner you will have the opportunity to experience the bush at night, with all its unique sounds and sensations. You will then arrive back at camp in time to prepare for dinner and another night in this marvellous setting.

| Day 5 - Amboseli to Tsavo West | Meals: B L D |
After breakfast at Satao Elerai you will continue your flying safari and travel to Tsavo West National Park where you will be met by the Severin Safari Camp team just in time for lunch. After lunch you will have time to rejuvenate at the Kenbali Spa, should you wish to do so, or simply relax by the pool or in your tent. Later in the afternoon you will be offered an excursion to the lovely Mzima Springs which is frequented by bathing hippos, wallowing in the pools against a backdrop of stands of acacias and palm trees. You will then proceed to the Poacher's Lookout beauty spot for canapés and sundowners whilst you take in another beautiful African sunset. We will return to Severin Safari Camp for a great evening meal and our overnight stay.

| Day 6 - Tsavo West to Tsavo East | Meals: B L D |
In the early morning you will be taken on a walking safari by a Maasai guide who will teach you all about the park's ecosystem, its enormous and varied bird life and, of course, its much larger inhabitants. After breakfast you will hop onto your plane and travel from Tsavo West to Tsavo East, and will be met by your guide at the airstrip. On your way to Satao Luxury Tented Camp you may be lucky enough to see the red elephants the park is famous for. These creatures do not actually have red skin, instead, they like to roll around in the iron-rich dirt and end up covered from tusk to tail in dark red dust, which protects their skin from the fierce African sun. They are quite a sight! Satao Luxury Tented Camp is a chic luxury eco lodge located beside a watering hole, making it ideal for watching the wildlife. The standard of accommodation and food is top notch, and people who have stayed here rate it as one of the best camps you are ever likely to visit. After lunch today you will have another opportunity to see the amazing red elephants on an afternoon game drive before returning for dinner and sunset cocktails. The camp has its own special sundownder spot from where you can enjoy the sunset in a comfy seat beside a roaring fire as the staff bring you cocktail bites and serve you drinks.

| Day 7 - Tsavo East National Park | Meals: B L D |
The team at Satao will pack you a delicious picnic lunch today as you make your way out to the Galana River to visit Luggards Falls. These falls are actually rapids, formed where the river enters a rocky gorge, and the beautiful multi-hued rocks at the site have been carved out over millennia by the course of the water. You may be fortunate enough to see huge crocodiles basking on the sandbanks below, beside the large pool where the rapids come plunging down. Later, you will be taken for a peaceful bush sundowner, then back to Satao for another delicious dinner and overnight stay.

| Day 8 - Tsavo East to Mombasa | Meals: B |
A hearty camp breakfast follows your morning game drive today, after which your driver will take you to the airstrip where you will jump aboard your small plane for the journey to the coastal city of Mombasa. Upon reaching Mombasa you will be taken to the international airport for your flight home, or to the hotel of your choice. If you would like to return instead to Nairobi please contact us when making the booking and we can arrange this for an extra charge. Many people, after spending a week on safari, take the chance to spend a few more days relaxing on one of Kenya's many fine beaches. Tour starts/ends:
Starts: Upon collection from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi) in time for your scheduled flight at 09:15
Ends: At Mombasa International Airport at around noon.
Note: we can also pick you up or drop you off at the hotel of your choice in the greater Nairobi area if you notify us in advance.
Expected group size:
On regular group tours the expected total group size is between 2 and 10 travellers.
Type of vehicles used:
For transfers to and from the airport and long distance trips reliable and modern minibuses are used. Please note that we cannot guarantee air conditioning.
On safari drives open-topped jeeps are used.
Food and drink:
The food prepared at the lodges and/or hotels on this tour will be of an international nature and suited to a broad range of visitors. If you have any specific dietary requirements please let us know in advance so that we can inform the lodges and hotels along the route. Alcoholic drinks, unless specifically mentioned in the itinerary, are not included in the price.
Baggage and what to bring:
Important note: If your itinerary includes a leg of the journey on a light aircraft then please be advised that the maximum TOTAL weight allowance including hand luggage is 15kg (approx 33lbs) and all luggage must be in a soft bag i.e. NOT a suitcase.
We recommend that you do not forget to pack the following:
- Insect repellant cream/spray
- Camera and binoculars
- A torch (flashlight)
- A waterproof/dustproof bag
What to wear:
Although Kenya lies in the tropics it can get chilly in the evenings and early mornings. On this trip we recommend that you include the following in your baggage:
- A pair of sturdy lightweight shoes or boots
- Light coloured clothing with long sleeves and legs for the evenings and early mornings
- A hat to keep the strong sun off your head
Level of ability required:
Although there will be no special strength and fitness requirements, please note that safari lodges situated in remote areas are by their very nature lacking in many of the modern conveniences found in cities. For this reason please be prepared for uneven floors and sometimes challenging access.
You must be able-bodied and have the ability to move independently without help on this tour.
Health and vaccinations:
You should speak to your health provider about what vaccinations you will need for your trip to Kenya. In addition, most doctors recommend using anti malarial pills for your visit and taking measures to avoid being bitten by mosquitos, such as covering up exposed arms and legs. Lodges will provide mosquito nets over the beds.
If you take any medication, be sure to bring it with you, as well as details of your prescription.
We advise all travellers to take out comprehensive travel insurance before their trip.

Bringing Electronic Equipment:
If you are bringing electronic equipment to Kenya, such as a digital camera, laptop computer, smartphone etc. and need to plug it into a wall socket then you should consider buying a voltage surge protector. Voltage in Kenya is set to 220v. Most (modern) electronic equipment can switch automatically to this voltage, but it is best to check the label on the power supply. Most lodges provide electrical power by way of a generator, so to protect your equipment against voltage surges it is advisable to but a voltage surge protector. Plugs in Kenya are of the British 3 pin variety, so if you are coming from outside of the UK you will need to buy some adapters, which are readily available at airport stores.
Phones and Connectivity:
If you are planning on bringing your mobile phone and/or wifi enabled laptop to Kenya you should bear the following in mind. Kenya's phone system supports 3G, and this is how most telecommunications are managed. Furthermore, many safari lodges and hotels offer wifi to their guests, and there are numerous other hotspots around the country. If you want to stay in touch during your stay in Kenya the best course of action is to buy a credit-loaded sim card for your phone/mobile device in Nairobi, and then connect to the internet and make phone calls via this.
Getting to and from Kenya:
Many carriers fly directly to Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and, to a lesser extent, Moi International Airport in Mombasa. If you arrive a day or two before the start of your tour, we can help you to arrange hotel accommodation and book excursions for you. Please note that the price of this tour does not include international airfares.
Tipping and Other Costs:
Tips are expected in Kenya by anyone who provides you with a service. This could range from porters and waiters to drivers and local people whose photo you would like to take. As a general rule, it is polite to provide driver/guides with about $10 per day if they give a good service. Tips should be in Kenyan Shillings, as staff will find it difficult to use foreign currency. Other than money for tips we advise you to bring extra money on your trip to buy drinks and handicrafts.
Insurance:
Please note that travel insurance is not included in the price of this tour. We suggest that you take out a comprehensive policy from a reputable provider. If you want the peace of mind of knowing that you have an air ambulance available during your trip you could consider taking out temporary membership of the Flying Doctors.
Visa requirements:
Depending on your nationality you will probably need a tourist visa to enter Kenya for this tour. The current cost of a single-entry tourist visa is USD 50 per person (subject to change) and these can be purchased on arrival, for most nationals, in all major currencies.
